Excited as I am for college I decided I should write about UCF! They were recently featured on the United States Department of Energy's homepage. UCF'S green efforts have been nationally recognized and displayed for all to see.
The students even had a housing competition called "Kill-a-Wat" a program designed to reduce energy use and energy bills on campus. This program involves students in different resident halls that compete against each other to see who can reduce the most energy. The winning resident hall can earn up to $200 in scholarships.
By conserving energy UCF had been able to save at least $840,000 last year. With the opening of the new Thermal Energy Storage Facility. With their effort they expect to save a total of about $2 million this year in energy costs.
UCF is awesome and I think it's great what they're doing, not only are they saving money but they're helping the environment.
