Unique baby names aren't just for celebs

A common name like Jacob or James might have been used quite frequently decades ago but now parents are suggesting less common names for children which is displaying a new era in uniqueness and individualism according to a new study from San Diego State University.

Researchers suggest that the naming of odd baby names show a sign of a change in culture in comparison to when children decades ago didn't focus on individualism. If taken to far, however, this individualism could lead to narcissism, excessive self-love, according to study researcher Jean Twenge, of San Diego State University.

  1. That is really interesting. I never thought of the idea of naming someone so the bloke could be unique even before they can develop some sort of sign of a personality. But if a person wants to give their offspring a unique name, they shouldn't go with "the doctor protector", Apple or Grape, but they should go with uber unique names like Ninja and Unicorn, and when the parents lose their child they will have an excuse! Sorry I'm hyper.

  2. I think that this idea is so cool. All the names that people have now seem so banal. On the other hand, some people may try to take advantage of this new era of names. I know that not too long ago someone tried naming their baby 4Real. They were denied to use the number 4 within the name so then they tried to name the child Superman. So, I totally understand the individualism, but im scared. Some names may seem too eccentric. I think I would stick to normal names because then it just avoids trouble.

  3. I agree that the naming of odd baby names is a sign of individuality. However, I don't agree with the idea of going off track and naming our babies extremely weird names. This could affect the life of the baby later on because they might not be taken seriously or they may even be made fun of. I think that naming babies should be well thought and given time in order to choose a unique and appropriate name.
